Opening Reception, University of Cambridge Museum of Zoology

All LTRC Cambridge 2010 delegates are invited to attend the Opening Reception held at the Museum of Zoology, situated in central Cambridge.
The Museum of Zoology is home to a huge variety of recent and fossil animals. Its collections rival those of the major university museums worldwide, and are used for academic study by researchers within and beyond the University.
The Opening Reception for LTRC Cambridge 2010 is generously sponsored by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.
Cambridge University Press Bookshop Reception, Cambridge University Press Bookshop
Wednesday 14 April 2010, 6:15 – 7:30 pm
All LTRC Cambridge 2010 delegates are invited to attend a drinks reception at the Cambridge University Press bookshop. This is the oldest bookshop site in the country, from which books have been sold since at least 1581. The bookshop will offer a 20% discount on the sale of books and other Press products during the evening.
Attendance is free of charge but places are limited to 120 delegates owing to space limitations and the associated health and safety regulations.

Advance registration for the Bookshop Reception is no longer possible, however, you can book your place at the conference.

If you are unable to visit the bookshop on Wednesday evening – or all places have been booked – a 15% discount voucher for the Cambridge University Press bookshop will be provided in all delegate bags valid from 12 – 16 April 2010.
The bookshop houses 25,000 different titles, both academic and educational, all from Cambridge University Press. Titles include Cambridge Language Assessment series and Studies in Language Testing.

Gala Banquet, Thursday 15 April 2010, 7:30 pm
King's College, University of Cambridge
The Gala Banquet will be held in the magnificent Hall of King’s College. King’s College will offer LTRC Cambridge 2010 delegates the experience of fine dining in a historic and atmospheric venue.
A two-course meal (main course and dessert) will be served with wine or non-alcoholic drink. A licenced bar will be open throughout the evening to purchase own drinks.
Attendance at the Gala Banquet is optional and not included in the Conference Fee.

Cambridge Assessment Tour
Tuesday 13 April, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Delegates are invited to participate in a tour of Cambridge Assessment premises and to learn more about Europe’s largest assessment agency. Cambridge Assessment was established in 1858 as the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2008. It provides exams and tests covering a huge range of subjects and levels. More than eight million are taken every year, in over 150 countries. Cambridge ESOL is part of the Cambridge Assessment Group.

Meet the Editors
Tuesday 13 April, 4:10 pm – 5:10 pm
This session aims to offer practical guidance on getting published in our field. A panel of journal editors in the field of language testing/assessment and related disciplines will explain the editorial policy of their respective journals and answer questions on what is involved in getting yourself published. The session is open to all conference delegates, but may be especially helpful for early career researchers and graduate students. The editors of the following journals will be present: Language Testing, Language Assessment Quarterly, Assessing Writing, Assessment in Education, and Language Policy.

LTRC Newcomers' Session
Tuesday 13 April, 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm
This session aims to provide a welcoming introduction to those who may be attending LTRC for the first time. The panel will include the LTRC organisers, LTRC 'veterans' and some who have joined our LTRC community more recently. We will briefly explain how LTRC has evolved since 1979, how it is organised today and answer any questions you may have. Though aimed at newcomers, this orientation session is open to all conference delegates.
There is no charge for this event. It is not necessary to register for this session.

SiLT Anniversary
Thursday 15 April, 3:30 pm – 4:00 pm
The academic series Studies in Language Testing (SiLT), published jointly by Cambridge ESOL and Cambridge University Press, celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2010. At least 30 titles have been published in the series since it first appeared in 1995. All conference delegates are invited to join in the anniversary celebrations during the afternoon refreshment break. Cake will be provided!
