Become a Teaching Qualifications centre

This online form is to be used by institutions interested in applying to become a centre for Cambridge ESOL Teaching Qualifications. The form provides information on how to apply for centre approval. It also includes a questionnaire to help you judge whether your institution meets the basic Cambridge ESOL requirements. After completing the questions on this form, you will be provided with an outcome. If the questionnaire indicates that you meet the application requirements, your details will automatically be sent to the Centre Registration Unit for further action; otherwise, you will be provided with feedback detailing the areas where you do not currently meet our approval criteria.

Please note that successful completion of the initial enquiry form does not guarantee entry into the approval process. In order to be considered for approval, institutions must be able to demonstrate that their premises, facilities, resources and arrangements for course provision meet the standards required. Even where these requirements can be met, institutions will only be considered for approval if expectations of the sustainability of candidates are in line with Cambridge ESOL business objectives. Accordingly, where there is already sufficient local provision for a Teaching Award, additional institutions in the area concerned are unlikely to be approved to offer that award.

Cambridge ESOL Teaching Qualifications include the following qualifications: CELTAYL Extension to CELTAICELT,Delta ModulesIDLTMPTLLSDTE(E)LLS and ADTE(E)LLS. Full details of these qualifications can be found in the Teaching Qualifications area of the website. Please note that applications for TKT are subject to a separate approval process. Current centres should fill in  the appropriate form on CentreNet.  If you are not already a centre, please complete the form on the Become and Exam Centre page.

Information about applying to become a centre

We welcome applications from institutions with a commitment to providing quality teacher training based on best practice in language teaching. Institutions applying to run courses need to have been operating as an English language centre/department for at least three years and must be accredited by the relevant local accreditation agency.

The initial step in the application process involves matching your institution against the key features of the relevant Teaching Award. Before proceeding with the online enquiry form, we strongly advise you to read through the syllabus handbook and information provided in the Teaching Qualifications area of the website. Further clarification is provided with the questions throughout this online enquiry form but you first need to have read and understood the main requirements for the qualifications.

Please note that if your preliminary enquiry is accepted, a follow-up questionnaire asking for more detailed information will be sent to you before entering into the approval process.

This initial enquiry does not confer approved status but serves as a guide for your institution and Cambridge ESOL as to whether your institution can meet the basic criteria for applying to deliver the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Qualifications.

Notes on completing the online enquiry form

The form has seven sections:

  • Section A: About your institution
  • Section B: Staffing
  • Section C: Facilities and resources
  • Section D: Teaching practice provision
  • Section E: Observation
  • Section F: Administrative resources
  • Section G: Equal opportunities and complaints.

Read through the notes in each section and answer the questions. At the end of each section you will be told whether you meet the requirements for that area — if you do, you will progress to the next section; if you do not, you will need to think about how to meet the requirements detailed in that section before continuing.

About your institution and your location

The initial questions on the form relate to your institution and the course for which you are seeking approval. Normally institutions are approved to deliver only one Teaching Award in the first instance.

The local market

Where other centres in your area already offer the same award, your institution will be asked to consider the local market and provide statistical evidence in support of your enquiry. Local centres may also be asked for their views on the demand for courses in the area. When planning your course, you should also consider offering the course in a different format, i.e. part time over several months if nearby centres are offering full-time intensive courses. Please note that where there is sufficient local provision for a specific Teaching Award we may not be able to approve additional institutions within the area concerned.

To find out if there is an existing Teaching Qualifications centre in your area offering the same course you wish to apply for, please search the Teaching Qualification centres database.
