Charity fund raisers dress to the nines for day in the office
24 November 2010
They wouldn't have looked out of place at a wedding, gala dinner or Ascot, but it was just another day in the office for this bunch of Cambridge-based workers. Earlier this month, the Customer Services Team at Cambridge ESOL donned their finest tiaras, dinner jackets and formal gowns for the very special occasion of... well coming to work.
The “dress up day”, a fun take on the traditional office dress down day, was the latest in a series of fundraising activities for Headway, Cambridgeshire - the UK's leading brain injury charity. The 38 staff who took part managed to raise an impressive £332.
Cambridge ESOL's Celia Briggs, who organised the day said:
“It was wonderful that so many people got involved and we definitely turned a few heads in the office! It's not every day you get to dress up like this and it made the day very enjoyable and quite unique. Since we got involved with Headway's Baton Challenge our team have come up with all sorts of creative ideas to raise money for what is an excellent cause.”
Andrew Gardner, Chief Executive Officer of Headway Cambridgeshire said:
“The team from ESOL constantly amaze us with the creative ideas that they come up with to raise funds for Headway Cambridgeshire. The best thing is that they seem to be having fun doing it. They are the first company to hold the Headway Baton and are all so committed to setting the bar very high for the next company to beat. We are very grateful for their continued support and enthusiasm.”
The Customer Services Team at Cambridge ESOL has already raised £1,780, well over their original target of £1000 for Headway's Baton Challenge. They're hoping to reach their new target of £2,500 over the next few weeks. During this period, they will hold onto a special trophy which was presented to them last month at a special launch ceremony (pictured). Events organised so far include a Charity bike ride and a comedy beard shave.
