English tests: access all areas

27 July 2010

English language tests will become more accessible for students all over the world, thanks to a new agreement between two key players in the language learning sector.

From this month, well-known language school chain LSI, will begin offering Cambridge ESOL computer based tests through their global network of 19 schools. The agreement was officially sealed at Cambridge's UK head office in June. Cambridge ESOL's Chief Executive Dr Mike Milanovic commented:

"We're delighted to be working with LSI who has such a strong reputation in the English language learning sector. English tests significantly boost individuals' prospects, so it's essential students have access to good quality testing regardless of where they are based.

By working together, we're able to offer this benefit to even more ambitious students from around the world."

As part of the agreement, LSI - who have language schools across the world including England, Canada, the USA, Malta, New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia - will offer a range of language tests from Cambridge in computer-based formats.

David Immanuel, Director of LSI says:

"We have been working with Cambridge ESOL for many years, and we are delighted to expand this cooperation. Computer based testing is growing and I am sure that the Cambridge ESOL CBT, which has been very well researched, will ensure that Cambridge ESOL remains a leader in English language testing worldwide."

During their visit, senior staff from LSI visited Cambridge ESOL's research library which currently houses over 5000 books including the Studies in Language Testing Series published by Cambridge ESOL and Cambridge University Press.

According to Dr Milanovic, this series is "the key" to ensuring English exams are valid and fit for purpose.

Each year over 3 million students take English language examinations from Cambridge ESOL to help them onto their chosen vocational or education path. More than 10,000 employers, universities and government bodies around the world recognise Cambridge ESOL qualifications as proof of English language ability. This new agreement will add to the existing locations around the world where candidates can sit English tests from Cambridge.
