Five international English teachers win competition to study in Cambridge

Five English teachers from around the world have won a prestigious competition to study in Cambridge this summer in recognition of raising the standard of English amongst young learners at their schools.
Monica Eberle from Argentina, Xuan Hang Le from Vietnam, Pei Jin Tsai from Taiwan, Weronika Salandyk from Poland and Marina Kirichenko from Kazakhstan all won this year's English for Schools competition run by Cambridge ESOL in collaboration with Bell Teacher Campus Cambridge. They were all awarded a two week residential teacher development course at Bell Teacher Campus based at Homerton College which is part of Cambridge University.
The competition launched in November 2009 challenged teachers from all over the world to write about their own unique teaching experiences and the five winners were chosen from over 2,000 entries in 50 different countries. The winning stories conveyed English teaching perspectives from a school in Buenos Aires, a small village in the GlongTron district of Vietnam, an elementary school in Taiwan, a primary school in Poland and a High School in Kazakhstan.
Ian Cook, School Sector Marketing Manager at Cambridge ESOL says the standard of entries was particularly “high and varied”:
“The five winners stood out from the crowd as they showed incredible enthusiasm for their subject and a great dedication to their students. Each individual story clearly expressed the important role these teachers play in raising the standard of English across the globe. This is not only good for the individual learners, but for the wider global community.”
The winners attended a two-week Language and Methodology Refresher course which focuses on developing English language skills and professional teaching techniques. Will Kinsman, Bells Group Director of Sales & Marketing explains:

We aim to inspire teachers from all over the world and provide them with creative and valuable learning tools which they can integrate into their own teaching methodology and classroom activities. Our expert teacher trainers are dedicated to delivering learning and cultural experiences that encourage international understanding and intercultural exchange.”
Along with developing their language and teaching knowledge, the winners also exchanged ideas, discussed their experiences and networked with other teachers from over 45 countries.
