Cambridge ESOL visits business English conference in Croatia

7 December 2011

Cambridge ESOL attended the 24th Annual IATEFL BESIG Conference at the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel, Dubrovnik, Croatia 18-20 November 2011. This is the annual conference for the Business English Special Interest Group which is part of IATEFL. Cambridge ESOL's Marketing Manager, Strategy Unit, Simon Wright said, "This conference provided the opportunity to speak directly to teachers of business English which helped us to promote the Cambridge English and our work place products. We also spoke to a number of our centres in the region who attended".

Over 300 participants attended the conference including a number of Croatian delegates. Cambridge ESOL's participation focussed on the work suite products and included:

  • A stand in the exhibitors area with a prize draw to win a Kindle.
  • Hosting a panel discussion on Friday 18 November 16.30 – 18.00. The aim was to provide a forum for discussion with the audience on companies’ English language needs and the identification of the real-world language skills required in the increasingly global workplace.
  • A talk by Marjorie Rosenberg (BESIG Coordinator) on writing skills for BEC on behalf of Cambridge ESOL, Saturday 19 November.
  • A talk by Cambridge ESOL's Michael Carty on communications in the classroom on Sunday 20 November.
  • Cambridge ESOL had ‘silver’ sponsorship at the event which included branded helpers t-shirts, a flyer in the delegate bags and our logo displayed in the programme as well as mention of us in the main plenary.
