Cambridge ESOL raise over 3,000 for Headway18 January 2011 - Today, representatives from Cambridge ESOL's Customer Services Group presented Headway Cambridgeshire with a cheque for £3,361 - which they raised for Headway's recently launched Baton Challenge. The handing over ceremony was held at Headway Cambridgeshire's head office in Mill Road (pictured below - left to right: Ann Weitzel (Headway), Celia Briggs and Juliet Wilson (Cambridge ESOL) and Andrew Gardner (Headway).

At the end of last year, the Customer Services Team at Cambridge ESOL became the first organisation to take on Headway's Baton challenge. During this time, they held on to a special trophy (the 'baton') whilst they organised a series of events which ran from October to November. Fundraising challenges included cycle rides, a comedy beard shave and an office 'dress up day'. Headway - the UK's leading brain injury charity - provides specialist services and support to people with an acquired brain injury, their family and carers.

Andrew Gardner from Headway Cambridgeshire says: “The team from ESOL constantly amazed us with the creative ideas that they come up with to raise funds for Headway Cambridgeshire. The best thing is that they seemed to have fun doing it. They are the first company to hold the Headway Baton and are all so committed to setting the bar very high for the next company to beat. We are very grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by all at Cambridge ESOL.”

The final fundraising activity held at the end of November was a 'village fete' in Cambridge ESOL's office which raised well over £450. Cambridge ESOL's Celia Briggs said:

“We really enjoyed being the first to rise to the Baton challenge. Everyone who got involved showed immense creativity and team spirit for what is a truly excellent cause. The final figure of over £3,000 was a very nice surprise and I know our colleagues at Headway will put this money to good use. We now throw down the gauntlet to another organisation to try and beat this total.”
