10 May 2011

University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) has developed two new Online Practice Tests to help boost the English language skills of hundreds thousands of international students preparing to take IELTS.

Cambridge ESOL - who develop the IELTS test - says the new Online Practice Tests will benefit the 1.5 million students who rely on IELTS test results each year for university entrance and immigration to an English-speaking country. Available from today, the two Online Practice Tests are for those preparing for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. IELTS Academic is accepted by thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate university programmes as proof of students' English proficiency. IELTS General Training is widely used by people who are looking to live and work in English speaking countries - particularly Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Sharon Harvey, Assistant Director, Support Products and Services at Cambridge ESOL says:

“There is a huge demand for IELTS preparation materials due to the international importance of the test. The Online Practice Tests provide a new way to help IELTS students prepare by offering them a full practice test online for Reading, Writing and Listening. By giving detailed tips and feedback, students all over the world will know what to expect come exam day.”

Candidates can practise in Test Mode, which gives controlled exam practice or Learner Mode, which gives additional support to learners with tips, access to an online dictionary and the possibility of checking answers as they go through the test.

The two new online practice tests join the previously-launched online courses and language skills modules for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training and can be purchased by both individuals and schools.
