Teachers of English support website hits 1 million milestone

09 February 2011

A website for English language teachers has notched up 1 million visits. The Cambridge ESOL Teacher Support site provides a web-based community for all teachers preparing students for Cambridge English exams set by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL). Figures from February show that the site is most popular with teachers based in the UK, followed by teachers in Spain, Australia, Italy and India. Other countries in the top ten are: China, Germany, US, Argentina and Russia.

Cambridge ESOL's Sharon Harvey says the growing importance of English language testing has increased the need for such a resource:

“The level of interest we're seeing from teachers all over the world is really good news for the language learning community. Each year millions of people take English tests for life-changing reasons, which increases the need for good quality teaching. This is why the Teacher Support site has become an essential resource for those teachers preparing candidates for Cambridge ESOL exams.”

The online resources available on the Teacher Support site include an interactive area with free lesson plans, information on events, discussion forums, and an advice section offering tips and strategies for every exam set by Cambridge ESOL. The site was developed as part of Cambridge ESOL's broader objective to improve standards in the teaching and learning of English. The organisation has recently launched a number of other support products including Online Practice Tests, online courses for candidates, Past Paper Packs, Speaking Test Preparation Packs for teachers and the Top Tips revision guides for candidates. This year there are a number of planned developments to further enhance the support offered to teachers.
