Award-winning teachers congratulated by CambridgeA group of 11 English language teachers from around the world have been congratulated by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) for helping to raise the standard of English in their countries.

The teachers – who all won the 2011 Cambridge ESOL Preparation Centre Competition – were awarded a cultural trip to Cambridge this summer to take part in a series of activities.

Last year, Cambridge ESOL invited preparation centres to write 100 words on how Cambridge ESOL exams have made a difference to students and teachers in their preparation centre.

The full list of winners is Bibiana Alejandra Cordero from Argentina, Andrea Fernanda Hurst from Argentina, Dionysia Samara from Greece, Jonathan O'Brien from Ireland, Michael S. Anthony from Malaysia, Adriana Cerna from Mexico, Heike Johannsen-Tarhbalouti from Morocco, Tatyana Permyakova from Russian, Dragana Vujkovic-Bukvin from Serbia, Javier Gallego Álvarez from Spain and Verica Skocic from Sweden.

Whilst in Cambridge, the winning teachers attended a teaching master class seminar where they learnt some useful tips to take back to the classroom. They also took part in punting and walking tours around the historic city of Cambridge and were presented with a special certificate at Christ’s College in Cambridge. Cambridge ESOL's Mariana Calderon, who organised the competition said:

“Our preparation centres make a big difference in helping to raise the standard of English all over the world. By helping students to get ready for exam day, it really gives them the confidence they need to succeed with Cambridge English. The winning entries stood out from the crowd as it showed they had a good grasp of the real-life benefits of Cambridge English – something that they can pass on to their students.”
