Our people

Christine Nuttall
Director
Christine is responsible for ensuring Cambridge ESOL has a consistent policy and approach with regard to its key contacts and stakeholders, and is directly involved with some of the organisation’s key external relationships. She joined Cambridge ESOL in 1997, acting as Director Assessment before going on to head a new group, Communications and Stakeholder Relations. She also oversees the production of materials and services which support our assessments, including learning tools, promotional literature, and seminars and conferences. Christine has more than 25 years of experience in the English language teaching profession, including setting up and running her own successful language school and working for the British Council for seven years in Spain and London. Christine holds a BA in English and American Literature and an MA in TESOL.

Stephen McKenna
Assistant Director, Communications

Stephen is responsible for Cambridge ESOL’s internal and external communications, including media liaison, public relations and public affairs. He joined Cambridge ESOL in 1998, after several years working for Cambridge Assessment in a variety of editorial, publishing and public relations roles, focusing on communicating change in national curricula both in the UK and overseas. Stephen studied Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge and has a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester.

Marianne Hirtzel
Legal Affairs Manager

Marianne's role is to lead the Legal Affairs Unit in the provision of a full in-house legal service for ESOL. The Unit provides advice on legal issues and documents, including drafting and advising on conclusion of all legal agreements and contracts, compliance with applicable legislation, protection of Cambridge ESOL’s intellectual property rights and responding to issues with the aim of preventing litigation arising. Marianne is a qualified solicitor and also worked as an English language teacher for five years.

Andrew Nye
Stakeholder Relations Manager
Andrew is responsible for ensuring quality relationships with Cambridge ESOL's stakeholder community. He has extensive experience in ELT around the world as a teacher, teacher trainer, and academic manager. Before joining Cambridge ESOL he worked as Director of Studies at International House Lisbon. Andrew has a first degree in modern languages from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from Oxford Brookes Business School.

 

Liz Robinson
Marketing and Stakeholder Relations Manager
Liz provides marketing strategy and management for Cambridge ESOL's growing range of free and paid-for support products and services. She also ensures that consistently high-quality relationships with our stakeholder community are developed and maintained. Liz joined Cambridge ESOL after working at the University of Westminster as a Senior International Officer. She also has experience of English Language teaching in Italy, China and the UK and language school administration. Liz has a degree in Psychology from the University of Nottingham and a Master's in Marketing Management from University of Westminster. She is currently studying for the IDM Certificate in Digital Marketing.

Sally Downes
Manager, Marketing Services
Sally is responsible for Cambridge ESOL’s visual branding, and for the provision of engaging and informative marketing materials across print, video, online and digital formats. She manages the Electronic Media, Marketing Communications, Publishing, and Internet Services teams. Sally worked extensively in the publishing industry before joining Cambridge ESOL in 2001. She has an Honours degree in Graphic Design from St Martin’s School of Art, London.

 

Vivian Chiang

Vivian Chiang
Manager, Marketing Communications
Vivian is responsible for the key messaging for all Cambridge English exams and manages Cambridge ESOL’s strategic marketing communications across print, digital and other media. Vivian has a wide range of experience in marketing, and before joining Cambridge ESOL, she managed digital products and e-sales for Tribal Group Plc. Previously, Vivian lived in Hong Kong where she held various marketing positions in the premium product, restaurant, consultancy and publishing sectors. She has a BA in Communication from Monash University, Australia and has an MBA from Anglia Ruskin University, UK.

Jason Hurren

Jason Hurren
Events Manager
Jason is responsible for representing Cambridge ESOL at conferences, seminars, exhibitions and other events around the world. He has worked for over a decade at Cambridge ESOL. Jason has an MA in History and Politics from the University of Glasgow and a postgraduate qualification from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

 

 

Stuart Giblin
Media Relations Officer

Stuart acts as the first point of contact for all media enquiries relating to Cambridge ESOL. He is responsible for the exploitation of media coverage by building collaborative relationships with key journalists, editors and external media agencies. He also plays a key role in editing and reviewing news-based messages for various communications materials. Before joining Cambridge ESOL, Stuart played a communications role within a national government agency. He also has experience in publishing production working on text books and online resources for higher education.

Lorna James
Digital Marketing Manager

Lorna's role is to develop and deliver Cambridge ESOL's digital marketing strategy globally, supporting the work of overseas offices. Lorna also manages the Digital Media Team. She has over 10 years' marketing experience, with particular expertise in international website development, multilingual search engine optimisation, social media and digital project management.
