These exams are for learners at all levels of language ability and are designed to progress the language learner from beginner to advanced levels.
KET (Key English Test)
KET (A2 level, CEFR) is taken in over 70 different countries, with the majority of candidates from Europe, South America and the Asia-Pacific region. Their reasons for taking the exam vary from personal interest to employment purposes to interest in further English language study.
PET (Preliminary English Test)
PET (B1 level, CEFR) is taken by candidates from 80 countries with the majority of candidates in Europe and South America. Half of them take PET to improve their future employment prospects and a third state that they are interested in the further study of English.
FCE (First Certificate in English)
FCE (B2 level, CEFR) is taken by candidates from all over the world, representing over 200 nationalities. It has widespread recognition in the commercial and industrial sectors and many universities and educational institutions recognise FCE for English language entrance requirements.
CAE (Certificate in Advanced English)
CAE (C1 level, CEFR) is a high-level qualification for professional or study purposes, and is used as proof of the language level needed to work at a managerial or professional level or to follow a course of academic study at university level.
CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English)
CPE (C2 level, CEFR) is recognised throughout the world by universities, further education institutions, professional bodies and by commerce and industry as an indication of a very high level of competence in English.
Young Learners English
YLE
These fun and motivating tests are taken by children from 65 countries. The three levels – Starters and Movers (A1 level, CEFR) and Flyers (A2 level, CEFR) – are a good first step to KET and other Cambridge exams.
Business English
BEC (Business English Certificates)
BEC is a range of certificated examinations aimed at individual learners who wish to obtain a business-related English language qualification. There are three levels: BEC Preliminary (B1 level, CEFR), BEC Vantage (B2 level, CEFR) and BEC Higher (C1 level, CEFR).
BULATS (Business Language Testing Service)
This is a non-certificated assessment service that offers employers a quick, reliable and flexible method of assessing employees’ language skills.
English for Special Purposes
IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
IELTS is popular with students who want to study or work in places where English is the language of communication. IELTS scores are recognised by universities and colleges, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies.
Cambridge ILEC (International Legal English Certificate)
ILEC is an examination set at Levels B2 and C1 (CEFR) and assesses language skills in a legal context. It has been developed in collaboration with TransLegal and is recognised by leading associations of lawyers.
Cambridge ICFE (International Certificate in Financial English)
ICFE is a high level examination set at Levels B2 and C1 (CEFR) and assesses language skills in a financial context. It is a test of English for the financial and accounting sector.
ESOL Skills for Life
These certificates, available at five levels, provide flexible assessment of ESOL learners in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and are fully based on the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum.
