Sharing research with stakeholders
Cambridge ESOL believes that it is not only important to undertake regular research, but also to share it with other language and assessment experts around the world.
Much of the research that we undertake, alone and with partners, is shared with other language teaching and applied linguistic communities through conferences, publications and other sources.
Cambridge ESOL regularly participates in academic conferences such as the annual Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC). We presented several papers at the event in 2007.
Studies in Language Testing
Cambridge ESOL produces a series of academic books, Studies in Language Testing (SiLT) published by Cambridge University Press. Over 20 volumes have now been published. SiLT volumes cover research into language assessment and the theory and practice underpinning our tests. Three volumes in the series were published in 2007.
- Volume 19 IELTS Collected Papers: Research in speaking and writing assessment. Edited by Lynda Taylor and Peter Falvey (2007)
- Volume 25 IELTS Washback in Context: Preparation for academic writing in higher education. Anthony Green (2007)
- Volume 26 Examining Writing: Research and practice in assessing second language writing. Stuart D Shaw and Cyril J Weir (2007)
Our quarterly publication Research Notes also carries regular articles focusing on research, test development and validation within Cambridge ESOL.
As well as publishing research we also take part in conferences all over the world. In 2007, two international seminars also took place in Cambridge, bringing together academics and government advisors to help shape the agenda for further research. Additional research studies are being set up with universities in a number of countries.
2007 saw the publication of three new volumes in our Studies in Language Testing (SiLT) series
