Is it possible to teach in a state school with the DELTA qualification — does it have the same status as a PGCE?

DELTA is a specialist qualification in the area of adult education but formal teacher training such as a PGCE, which is designed for primary or secondary children, would be required for state school teaching. An Extension Module is under development, which should qualify teachers with DELTA to work in the further education sector.

I have an MA in Linguistics and have taught EFL for many years but do not have the CELTA or DELTA. I now want to take a Cambridge course: can I go straight to the DELTA or do I need to take the CELTA first?

This would depend on the extent of your EFL teaching experience. You should contact the DELTA centre of your choice and based on your CV they will be able to advise you on whether you are a suitable DELTA candidate.

Is there any upper age limit for someone applying to do the DELTA course?

There is no age limit. You need to apply to a centre and they will consider your experience and at interview will decide if you are a suitable candidate.

Can you recommend any of your approved centres that have a higher pass rate than others, and also do you think any of your centres are better than others?

We do not comment on individual centres or provide individual centre results.

All of our courses are approved and meet Cambridge ESOL's minimum requirements.

Candidates need to make their own decision regarding which centre they feel would be most suitable for them and if they have any concerns, they should raise them when attending the interview for a place on a course.
