Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) - Level 4 (UK only)

What is PTLLS?

PTLLS is a 6-credit award designed to provide teachers with initial preparation to teach in the lifelong learning sector. It may be taken pre-service or at the start of employment in the sector.

Who is PTLLS for?

PTLLS is for new teachers in the sector or teachers who are unqualified.

What does PTLLS involve?

The Cambridge ESOL PTLLS is embedded in the 120-hour CELTA course. Candidates complete some additional assessment in order to meet PTLLS requirements. The benefits are that the CELTA with PTLLS programme gives candidates a good base from which to enter employment. and candidates with CELTA have already completed some of DTE(E)LLS.

Can candidates enrol for PTLLS after completing CELTA?

Most Cambridge ESOL centres are offering PTLLS at the same time as CELTA. However, some centres may offer a short extension course to enable CELTA candidates to complete PTLLS assessment. Alternatively teachers can complete PTLLS requirements at the start of the Diploma in Teaching English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTE(E)LLS).
