Focus on Assessment - Entry 3

 

Phase 1

Listen and Respond

The candidate can usually listen and respond to spoken language and follow straightforward explanations and instructions, responding appropriately to the interlocutor’s questions and instructions and participating effectively and appropriately in discussion with their partner.

 

Speak to Communicate

The candidate can usually communicate information, feelings and opinions on familiar topics clearly, logically and through a range of expressions, speaking clearly for meaning and emphasis to be understood, including appropriate features of stress, intonation, speed and rhythm, expressing and seeking information through questions and/or statements, handling a range of structures, functions and topics appropriate to Entry 3* and sequencing logically using discourse markers.

 

Engage in Discussion

The candidate can usually take part in formal interaction, making relevant points that respond appropriately to what others say, expressing and elaborating on feelings, opinions, suggestions and advice, explaining where necessary, indicating strength of feeling. The candidate can usually seek, listen to and respond to their partner’s feelings, opinions, suggestions and advice, indicating degree of agreement and certainty, compromising where appropriate and turn-taking appropriately.

 

Phase 2

The candidate can usually listen and respond to spoken language and follow straightforward explanations and instructions, responding appropriately to the interlocutor’s questions and instructions and to recorded texts and participating effectively and appropriately in discussion with their partner.
