Look at the discussion of the points raised by the sample Form/questionnaire task. What would you recommend to your students as the most efficient strategies for dealing with this task?
- What was the relevance of the topic area of this task?
The home part of everyday life is a relevant and familiar topic area for learners at Entry level. Students should expect to complete forms and questionnaires dealing with this and other everyday topics. - How did you know how much to write?
Forms will usually contain a larger section which will require a longer response. Here the candidate will be instructed to write in sentences. Elsewhere, single words or phrases are appropriate. - Which features of the form are appropriate to all forms?
Personal information – name, address, telephone number, college – are always likely to appear on a form at Entry 1. Candidates are here assessed on their ability to write legibly, using upper and lower case appropriately. - How authentic is section 3 of the task?
A form will not usually require you to write in sentences. This requirement ensures sentence features can be assessed. Sometimes the candidate will be asked to write a number of sentences (in this sample task, two). At other times it will not be specified.
