Look at the discussion of the points raised by the sample Lists task. What would you recommend to your students as the most efficient strategies for dealing with this task?
- How easy was it to think of items?
The home is a relevant and familiar topic area for learners at Entry level so they are expected to be able to write a list. It's a good idea for candidates to compile topic lists of everyday things which they may be asked to write about. - What did you have to keep in mind while you were writing?
Candidates are assessed on their ability to select appropriate vocabulary, their spelling and legibility of their handwriting. - What did your list look like?
Some learners may not be used to lists, even in their own language, and lists in other languages may be different anyway. Learners will need to be aware of both the function and format of lists. - What kind of items would be difficult for a student to write?
Long words and words in which the letters do not represent the expected sound are all likely to cause problems. Lower frequency words will also cause difficulty, but candidates should be reminded that they are being tested on familiar vocabulary.
