BEC Higher Speaking Part 3

Task Description

What is this task?
Candidates are given a task sheet with a short description which presents a business-related situation and two discussion points. Candidates are given time to read through the task and then discuss the situation together. Finally, the interlocutor will ask one or more questions which relate generally to the topic.

What is the interaction?
For the discussion part, the candidates talk to each other. At the end the candidates will be invited to respond to questions asked by the interlocutor and/or to add their own comments to what their partner has just said.

How long does this part last?
Candidates have 30 seconds to read the task and then three full minutes for the discussion (5 minutes for 3 candidates). The question/answer section at the end lasts between one and three minutes.

What skill is being assessed?
Candidates should be able to initiate discussion and sustain interaction effectively by asking for and giving opinions, by agreeing and disagreeing with their partner and by being able to develop their partner's comments and generate new ideas. They should also be sensitive to turn-taking.
