Assessment

The writing paper is not only about achieving the task but also the communicative quality of your students' work. This means that if they take risks and show an effort to use difficult vocabulary and structures, they will gain marks for this even if they make a few mistakes. This general mark scheme is used with a task-specific mark scheme, which focuses on criteria specific to each task.

The general mark scheme is used as a guideline for awarding marks. It covers the following areas:

  • Content

  • Accuracy

  • Range of vocabulary and grammar structures

  • Organisation and cohesion

  • Effect on target reader

All writing work is marked by a team of trained examiners and is worth 25% of the overall mark.
