Describe and Draw Graph

Aim:

to practise writing about graphs

Target Audience:

students

Relevance to BEC:

Part 1

Organisation:

in pairs

Materials needed:

paper and pencil

  1. Put students back to back and give them each a different graph.

  2. They have to describe the graph, giving the exact variables (e.g. sales in thousands of units) and using the appropriate language (e.g. climb steadily, fall dramatically) to the other student.

  3. Their partner then has to draw the graph.

  4. Point out that a graph showing statistics in the past has to be described using a past tense, e.g. 'In 2001 prices rose considerably'.

  5. When students have finished this task, they should compare the graphs they have drawn.
