- Get students to work together with a partner to produce 'The
Happiness Graph'.
- One of them draws two axes on a sheet of paper, the vertical
axis ranging from 'depressed' to 'ecstatic' and a central horizontal
axis showing the days of the week.
- The student then draws a line graph to express their happiness
on different days of the week.
- Their partner then asks questions - 'Why were you so happy
on Wednesday?'
What was wrong on Friday?' etc and the student answers.
- This exercise is repeated by the other student.
- The graphs are exchanged and students write a short text to
describe the changes shown on the graph.
- Point out the use of the past tense and graph language e.g.
reached a peak, hit a low, levelled off and so on.
