It is possible at this level to ask students to present graphs
that represent their own interests and hobbies. One good example
was a student who graphed his bee-keeping hobby showing output of
honey each year giving reasons and insight into something of great
personal interest to him and consequently the class.
Students will find it relatively easy to verbalise graphs as in
the above examples, but will need help with the concise style of
writing required. Many students will have learnt summarising skills
in their own language and should be encouraged to think back to
those techniques.
Another option is to use real graphs based on people's jobs or
some aspect of their university or school. For example, a graph
showing the proportion of male to female workers in the company
or male to female students on a course over a number of years.
