In the time before listening to each text, read the instructions and task carefully, think about what you are going to hear, and underline key words in the instructions and questions.
Use the second listening (in Parts 1 and 4 only) to check, confirm or alter your answers from the first listening.
Remember that in Part 2, spelling (British or American) should be correct.
Concentrate on an in-depth understanding of what is said in Parts 3 and 4.
Remember that in Part 3, your five answers in each section should be different.
Answer all the questions – you won’t lose marks for wrong answers, and there’s a chance that you’ll guess correctly.
Carefully copy your answers in pencil onto the Answer Sheet during the 5 minutes at the end of the test.
Don’t leave any answers blank.
Don't spend too long thinking about a question, as you may miss the next one.
Don't attempt to rephrase unnecessarily what you hear in Part 2.
Don't forget to pay attention to anything that appears after the gap in Part 2 questions.
Don't repeat, in Part 2 answers, words whose meaning is given in the notes, e.g. don’t write designs for kitchenware or designs for new range if the note says Your ….. for their new range.
Don't forget that an option in Part 4 that is true according to what is said may not in fact answer the question that has been asked.
You can check how much you and your students know about these DOs and DON’Ts by doing the activity.
