An Overview of BULATS Listening

The Standard Listening Test lasts about 50 minutes. When the recording finishes, candidates have 5 minutes to copy their answers from their Question Paper onto their Answer Sheet.

3	Listening for gist: identifying topic, context or function. Short monologues / dialogues.	10
4	Listening to extended speech for detail and inference. Monologue / dialogue.	18

The Computer Test adapts to the candidate’s level. If they get questions right, it will give them more difficult ones. If they get questions wrong, it will give them easier ones. As a result, the number of questions in each section may be different from the Standard Test.

The skills tested in the Computer Test are the same as in the Standard Test.
