BULATS Reading and Language Knowledge – Task Type 6 – Multiple Choice Cloze

Task Description
What sort of material do candidates read?
- The general and business press, company literature, letters, advertisements, books on topics such as management, etc.
- This task covers Levels 2-4.
What sort of text do candidates read?
- a single, fairly short, 'multiple-choice cloze' text. This means a text with 5 one-word gaps where your students are given 4 words to choose from for each gap. Some gaps target specifically 'business vocabulary'; others target vocabulary in more general use but tested within a business context.
What do candidates have to do?
- In this task, candidates complete a gapped text by choosing a word from four options. There are 5 gaps to complete.
What skill is being assessed?
- Lexical, lexico-grammatical and collocational knowledge. Students will need a wide knowledge of both general and business vocabulary, including word-partnerships and phrasal verbs.
