Copy of sample text (Part 6), worksheet and answers, or any text on a clearly defined area of finance, with worksheet and answer key. |
- Divide the class into groups.
- Give the students the topic of the text they will be reading. This could be in the form of a question, e.g. ‘Why do companies think they need to set a budget?’ (see sample activity).
- Brainstorming – students predict vocabulary items they will find in the text.
- Students then read the sample text to check which words are in the text.
Variation
For this variation you will need to prepare a worksheet containing phrases from an article containing key items of vocabulary (e.g. corporate finance), and phrases from a different area of finance (e.g. international trade).
These two sets of phrases should be jumbled up on the worksheet (NB the key phrases in the sample activity come from international trade).
Steps 1 and 2 as above.
3. Give each student a copy of the worksheet.
4. Students decide which phrases are not from the article.
5. Students then read the article to check their answers.
