Focus on Assessment Activity

Aim:

To help teachers to understand the assessment criteria and how they are applied

Materials needed:

Worksheet; Sample Part 2 Question; Sample Script; ICFE General Mark Scheme; Answers
  1. Divide the group into pairs and give each pair the sample Part 2 question and answer.

  2. Ask them to read the sample question and sample answer.

  3. Hand out the Worksheet with the examiner’s comments in list form.

  4. Ask the pairs to find examples from the answer, or references to language in the answer, which illustrate the examiner’s various comments.

  5. Ask each pair to use this information to decide whether this is a good or adequate performance in ICFE Writing.

  6. Distribute the (summary of) the General Mark Scheme and as a whole group compare the examiner’s comments with the band descriptors. Ask the class to decide on the band awarded. Hand out the Answer sheet.
