Language Development for Reading Comprehension

Many of the reading skills candidates need for IELTS General Training Reading apply to all situations in which they need to read in English. Success in IELTS General Training Reading is influenced by the candidates’ ability to apply these skills, as well as their general proficiency in the English language.

You can assist your students in applying these skills and developing their general proficiency in English by encouraging them to:

• expand their vocabulary
• guess the meaning of words in context
• understand the different forms of cohesion
• increase their understanding of English grammar
