Functions in Letter Writing

Materials needed: |
- Ask students which functions they often need to do in letter writing e.g. inviting, suggesting, thanking, apologising.
- Write the names of these functions on the board: introducing complaints, inviting, apologising, making proposals, expressing opinions.
- Ask the students to tell you different ways of expressing these functions.
- Give students the worksheet and ask them to complete Task 1 individually or in pairs.
- Check their answers.
- Ask students to carry out tasks 2 and 3, checking students’ answers after each.
- Set the letter writing as homework.
