Answers and Discussion

  1. Do the notes form a record of the main points in the conversation?
Yes. Items in this type of task focus on the main points which a listener would naturally record in this type of situation.

  2. What is the maximum number of words/letters you can write for each answer?
In this case, three words and/or a number. The number of words and numbers varies from task to task, but it is always limited. Always check the instructions. If candidates write more than the stated limit, they will not get a mark.

  3. Can an answer consist of just one word?
Yes, often answers are just one word or one number. Candidates should not worry if their answers are below the stated upper limit.

  4. Where there is a measurement, as in Questions 4 and 5, is it necessary to write the unit (e.g. metres, centimetres)?
If the unit of measurement is not already on the Question Paper, it is necessary to write it (and to copy it onto the Answer Sheet). However in some cases the unit may already be written on the Question Paper. In these cases, it should not be copied onto the Answer Sheet.

  5. What should be copied onto the Answer Sheet?
Just the answer should be copied onto the Answer Sheet. Candidates should keep to the word limit and NOT copy any words or symbols from the Question Paper.
