ILEC Listening Part 3

Task Description

What sort of text do candidates listen to?
They hear a monologue which lasts approximately four minutes. It is generally an informational text which contains a fair amount of fact and detailed information.

What do the candidates have to do?
They have to complete sentences which record the main pieces of information from the listening text. Questions can generally be answered by a word or short phrase of up to three connected words, such as a noun group. The exact words needed for the answers will be heard on the CD, but not in the same sentences as those printed on the page. There are 9 questions and the recording is heard twice.

What listening skills are being tested?
Candidates need to be able to identify the main points in the listening text and then locate, retrieve and record specific items of information from it.

What text types are used?
Text types are usually announcements, speeches, talks, lectures, etc. in a finance-related context, e.g. extended contributions to meetings, as well as extracts from presentations, conference talks, training events, etc.
