An Overview of ILEC Speaking
Paper Format: The test consists of 4 parts.
Timing: The test lasts 16 minutes.
Marks: Both the interlocutor and the asessor award marks based on the candidates’ performance throughout the test.
The assessor awards marks for the following criteria:
- Grammar and vocabulary
- Discourse management
- Pronunciation
- Interactive communication
The interlocutor awards a mark for Global Achievement.

Interview The interlocutor asks both candidates questions about themselves and their legal work or studies. Candidates give personal information, and express opinions. |

The one-minute long turn Candidates talk about a law-related topic on their own, then ask each other a question. They have one minute to choose and prepare one out of two written topics with prompts. They organise discourse and develop topics. |

The collaborative task The interlocutor asks candidates to discuss a law-related topic with written prompts to help them. Candidates negotiate, exchange opinions and make decisions. |

The discussion The interlocutor asks both candidates questions related to the topic in Part 3. Candidates express opinions and develop the discussion. |
