Task Description
What happens in this part?
This part consists of a collaborative task. The interlocutor asks candidates to discuss a law-related topic with written prompts to help them.
How long does it last?
This part lasts 4 minutes which includes a 3 minute discussion between candidates.
What skills are being assessed?
The candidate’s ability to turn-take by initiating and responding appropriately, negotiate, collaborate, exchange information, express opinions and make decisions.
Understanding the task
To understand better how to approach this task, try doing the Part 3 sample task with a partner. Time yourselves and remember to allow your partner an opportunity to speak by asking them for their ideas and suggestions.
Now look at these questions about how you approached the planning task above and consider your answers.
Things to consider
- Why do you think in the Part 3 tasks there is no right or wrong answer?
- What advice might be useful for a student whose partner tries to dominate the conversation?
- What strategies could candidates use if they wanted to disagree with their partner?
- Why would a candidate not be penalised if they couldn’t understand what their partner was saying?
- Is it a good idea to go off the point during the Part 3 task? (Why/Why not?)
