ILEC Writing – Part 1
Task Description
What do candidates have to do?
Candidates read a letter written to them in the role of a lawyer (eg. by a client), along with five accompanying notes. They then respond, covering all of the points.
What skill is being assessed?
The focus is on successful communication. Candidates need to write in an appropriate register and use an appropriate layout. The focus of assessment is on concise expression, accuracy of language, organisation of content and appropriacy. A number of the notes require the candidate to address law-related issues relevant to the task.
What are the main language functions candidates are expected to use?
Candidates may be required to evaluate options, express opinions, advise, explain, persuade, justify decisions, recommend and suggest or propose solutions.
