KET Reading and Writing Part 3
Task Description
In this task candidates complete some spoken exchanges by selecting
appropriate responses.
How many questions are there?
10. Questions 11 to 15 are matching tasks. Candidates are asked
to complete five unrelated two-line conversations by choosing one
of three responses.
Questions 16 to 20 are all part of a matching task. Candidates
are asked to complete a longer dialogue by choosing the appropriate
response from a list of eight options.
What sort of dialogues are they?
They are simple conversations between two people. They take place
in shops, hotels, restaurants, etc., and in various work, study
and social situations. The tone may be neutral or informal.
What skill is being tested?
Candidates are being tested on their ability to understand the
functional language of the routine transactions of daily life.

Think about how you approached the task and then say whether the
following statements are true or false.
- The focus of this part of the test is grammar.
- It's a good idea to look for similar or related words in the
stimulus and response.
- The context for each conversation is clear.
- For the longer dialogue, it's a good idea to read everything
before beginning the task.
- The candidate must look at what comes before and after the gap
before trying to fill it.
