- Elicit or give the 3 criteria used in assessment of the Speaking
test: Grammar and Vocabulary; Pronunciation; Interactive Communication.
- In small groups of 2 or 3, ask participants to brainstorm examples
or descriptions of what they think is included in each criterion.
Feedback some ideas to the whole class, using the criteria descriptions
for KET assessment.
- Give out copies of the transcript. The highlighted words and
phrases indicate some of the items that would be assessed under
the criteria of grammar, vocabulary or interactive communication.
These are identified by underlined, bold and italic text. (Note:
Pronunciation is not considered here). Ask participants to identify
which criterion the item relates to, and what feedback you would
give if they said this in the classroom.
- Get the participants to look again at the transcript and consider
the positive features of the candidates' performance. In pairs,
identify some good KET level features using the criteria descriptions.
The annotated transcript gives some ideas for feedback on this.
Note: If you have access to the video, you can do this activity
while watching instead. In this case, you will be able to comment
on the pronunciation performance as well.
