Understanding the Task

Look at the interlocutor details of Part 1 of the Speaking test. If you have access to the Speaking Test Video, watch the KET Speaking test Part 1. If not, you can read a transcript of Part 1 here.

The interlocutor follows an interlocutor frame to guide the conversation. The candidates do not get a copy but need to listen carefully to the questions they are asked.

Once you're familiar with Part 1 read these statements, and decide if they are true or false.

1. Candidates should prepare responses in advance.

2. Candidates should only give the minimum answer possible in Part 1.

3. Candidates are expected to interact with each other.

4. Each candidate is given an equal number of turns.

5. Candidates can ask for clarification if they don't understand something.

6. Candidates only need to speak about their home and family in Part 1.

7. Candidates must spell their name.
