KET Speaking Part 2

Task Description

What is this task?
This is the prompt card activity. The interlocutor provides individual prompt cards for the candidates to ask and answer questions of a non-personal, factual kind.

What is the interaction?
The candidates talk together to ask and answer questions.

How long does it last?
3-4 minutes.

What skill is being assessed?
Candidates' ability to interact with each other (independent of the interlocutor), to request and give information.

Understanding the Task

Look at the sample material of Part 2 of the Speaking test. If you have access to the Speaking Test Video, watch the KET Speaking test Part 2. If not, you can read a transcript of Part 2 here. Note the sample test here is not the one used in the video.

Sample Part 2 task (PDF)

Once you're familiar with Part 2, read these statements, and decide if they are true or false.

1. The candidates should talk to each other and not to the interlocutor.

2. It's important for the candidates to listen to their partner in this section as well as speak.

3. It's important that candidates complete the task.

4. Candidates must not let their partner see their card.

5. Candidates must answer the questions using the information on their card.

6. Candidates will only get full marks if they produce error-free language.
