What are Examiners Looking For?

Aim:

to focus on what the examiners are looking for when they assess candidate performance

Materials needed:

worksheet

  1. Go through Focus on Assessment, explaining to your group what kinds of things examiners are looking for in each scale, e.g. that they use the right words and the right grammar when they speak (Grammar and Vocabulary).

  2. Ask the teachers to work in small groups and give each group a worksheet. Ask them to complete only the first column.

  3. When everyone has finished go through the answers together and discuss any issues that arise.

  4. Now ask the teachers to complete the second column. This can be done as a whole class discussion or in the previous pairs / groups.

  5. The whole class checks their answers. You can use this as an opportunity for further discussion.
