PET Speaking Part 4

Task Description

What do the candidates have to do?
The candidates have to talk to each other on a topic connected to the theme of the photographs in Part 3.

What does the examiner have to do?
The examiner tells the candidates about the topic for discussion and will redirect the conversation if the students appear to run out of things to say before the time allocated for this part of the test.

What is the purpose of this part?
This part tests the candidates' ability to express their likes, dislikes and preferences and to recount their experiences. They are expected to negotiate turn-taking and elicit information and opinions from their partner.

How long does this part last?

This part of the test lasts 3 minutes.

Understanding the Task

To understand better how students need to approach this task, it may help you to do the activity yourself, and analyse what you had to do. Look at the sample Part 4 discussion topic. Complete the task as a pair. You may like to record your discussion.
