Appropriacy in the Language Classroom

Aim:

to raise awareness of appropriacy in teacher language and types of inappropriacy.

Target Audience:

 teacher trainers/candidates

Relevance to TKT:

Module 3 Part 1

Organisation:

whole class then pairs then whole class

Materials needed:

Worksheet
  1. Give trainees a copy of the worksheet, which contains examples of appropriate and inappropriate classroom language.

  2. Ask trainees to identify which exponents are appropriate and why (simplicity, courtesy, clarity, attitude etc.).

  3. As a class look at the answers.

  4. Ask trainees to come up with appropriate alternatives to those which are inappropriate.
