The Role of the Teacher

Aim:

to raise awareness of a range of teacher roles and their implications for the classroom

Target Audience:

 teachers/candidates

Relevance to TKT:

Module 3 Part 2

Organisation:

groups then whole class then groups then whole class

Materials needed:

paper
  1. Put these words on the board:

    planner, informer, manager, involver, parent/friend, diagnostician, resource

  2. Divide the class into 7 groups and give each group a role.

  3. Each group brainstorms moments in lessons when teachers might take on this role.

  4. The groups report back to one another.

  5. Each group writes a definition of its role on a piece of paper then designs a poster illustrating this role.

  6. The posters are displayed. Group members could also give presentations to classmates based on their posters.
