Starters Speaking Tips for Teachers
- Explain the procedure in your students' first language and,
if possible, practise it with candidates.
- Remind the candidates that they can only speak in English during
the test.
- Do lots of practice with the candidates during class time.
- Do activities that require the candidates to point in response
to a question.
- Tell the children that they only need to point to the correct
part of the picture when they are asked questions like "Where's
the monkey?" or "Where are the trees?".
- Make sure candidates can talk about themselves confidently.
- Make sure they know that they only need to give short answers.
- Tell them to listen carefully to the examiner.
- Encourage them to answer the examiner's questions.
- Remind the candidates to say hello and goodbye and to tell the
examiner when they don't understand something.
