• Train your students to read and follow instructions carefully.
  
• Teach them to read the examples.
  
• Give them practice in marking ticks and crosses clearly for Part 1.
  
• Train them to check their spelling, especially in Part 3. Reinforce their knowlege of common letter patterns in English spelling such as ea, ck, ight, ou, er, etc.
  
• Make sure they read and check everything again when they have finished.
• Encourage them to write clearly. Joined-up writing can be especially hard to decipher.
• Give plenty of practice in reading carefully and answering questions with short answers with an emphasis on selecting key information.
• Ensure that they are used to working within the time limit for the test (20 minutes).
