International Diploma in Language Teaching Management (IDLTM)

What is IDLTM?

If you are an experienced English Language teacher, with an excellent track record and the commitment to a long-term career within the industry, you may see management responsibility as the logical next step.

The International Diploma in Language Teaching Management (IDLTM) is a globally recognised qualification that enables language teaching professionals to apply insights and skills derived from management theory and practice to their work as language teaching managers.

IDLTM will help you:

  • extend your knowledge and awareness of relevant management principles and practices
  • develop your management skills through the application of this knowledge and awareness to a language teaching context
  • demonstrate these skills in effective practice as a language teaching manager.

IDLTM is awarded as a global partnership between Cambridge ESOL, SIT (School for International Training) and ICTE-UQ (Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education, the University of Queensland).

Who is IDLTM for?

If you are an accomplished teacher, ideally with experience in management or co-ordination in a business or educational environment, your experience and knowledge of the English Language teaching profession makes you a valuable asset. IDLTM can help better prepare you for a career in management.

What does IDLTM involve?

IDLTM is a 325-hour course. Typically, there is an initial 2 week full-time face-to-face component, with the remainder of the course taught in flexible delivery mode over a 6 month period and concluding with a 3 day face-to-face seminar.

The Diploma includes an introductory unit (non-assessed) and eight compulsory modules with assignment-based assessment for each module:

  • Management and managing (Introductory unit)
  • Organisational management
  • Managing financial resources
  • Human resource management and communication
  • Marketing
  • Client and customer service
  • Academic management
  • Two modules proposed by the centre.

One assignment is set for each unit except the introductory unit. Assignment lengths vary from 1,000—3,000 words and assignment types also differ, depending on the nature of the unit.

Grades of Award

Candidates who meet the course requirements and who demonstrate that they have met the Pass standard for all assessed components will be awarded a Pass.

A Pass with Distinction will be awarded to candidates who meet the course requirements and who demonstrate that they have met the Distinction standard in four of the six core modules.

Candidates who fail to meet the standard in one or more of the assignments will not receive the IDLTM Award.

Who recognises IDLTM?

If you successfully complete IDLTM, you can opt to take your studies further. If you study at ICTE-UQ, you will be eligible for credit of four units (two courses) towards the Master of Education (Leadership), offered by the University of Queensland's Graduate School of Education. If you take IDLTM at SIT, you can choose to earn seven graduate credits for the Masters course through SIT.
