Major Forum Discusses Migration and Social Inclusion Policies

4 April 2008

A major forum next week will discuss the migration and social inclusion policies of the UK and other European countries.

Like many countries in the EU, the UK has recently extended the requirements for non-EU immigrants wishing to settle in the UK, imposing more rigorous conditions including language requirements.

The forum will discuss the integration policies of the UK and other European countries within the context of language testing and will debate such questions as:

  • Language policies for the integration of adult migrants: tendencies in Europe
  • Language as a key to cultural and social understanding – and to integration

The forum will have several well-renowned experts speaking including Joseph Sheils, Council of Europe and David Little, Head of the School of Linguistics at Trinity College Dublin.

The forum is part of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) 3rd International Conference being held this week (10-12 April). The conference will be the largest language conference in the UK to date the largest with over 500 experts attending.
