Vietnam National University recognises Cambridge’s PET and FCE
24 November 2008
Cambridge ESOL’s Preliminary English Test (PET) has been recognised by the Vietnam National University (VNU) in Hanoi as a benchmark of English language ability for all non-English majors. This means that students who demonstrate proficiency in their PET exams will no longer have to take English classes in addition to their regular exams.
Elsewhere, in the Ho Chi Minh City campus, PET has been recognised as the required entry level for Post-graduate students pursuing the Master programmes and Cambridge ESOL’s First Certificate in English (FCE) for Doctorate levels.
PET – which is at Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) – reflects the use of language in “real life” situations. It is aimed at those who can use everyday written and spoken English and is often used as a pathway to higher qualifications such as FCE.
Duncan Raynor, Development Manager for Cambridge ESOL in Asia spoke of the advantage the exams can bring to students:
”Students successfully taking PET will have the advantage of a certificate that is recognised by thousands of international organisations for business and study purpose. The exam can also act as a stepping stone to higher level examinations such as FCE.”
