European language Survey top of the agenda in Germany
16 November
Managers of English language exam centres from Germany, Austria, Scandinavia and Switzerland came together in Berlin last month to hear a number of presentations from the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations – including a progress update on the first ever survey of language learning across the European Community. Cambridge ESOL’s Dr Neil Jones, the Vice Director of the SurveyLang Project explained how the initiative will provide European countries with comparable data on foreign language proficiency, furnishing useful information for policy makers and language educators.
Held at the Abion Spreebogen Waterside Hotel in Berlin (15–17 October), the conference for Centre Examinations Managers attracted around 80 participants. Presentations covered English for the workplace, an update on a new online administration system for exam centres and a look at the how support products and services are being developed by Cambridge ESOL.
There was also an informative update from Cambridge ESOL’s Chief Executive Dr Mike Milanovic and a summary of how the exam board has increased acceptance of their exams globally and within the region from Sue Randall, Director Business Development and Business Management.
