A group teachers from Tehran has been celebrating the successful completion of Iran’s first ever CELTA course. The course was provided by the Intensive School of English and Business Communication (ISE), based in Brighton, England, and hosted by the Aryanpour Institute of Language and Culture in Tehran.
‘In many ways the first CELTA course has been a series of experiments,’ explained Ray Parker, one of the ISE teacher trainers. ‘We have been testing the robustness of our admission procedures, remotely operated from ISE Brighton. We have been testing the quality of the English language teaching community in Iran and we have been testing our capacity to deliver a highly intensive but fully standardized course thousands of miles from our teacher training base.’
‘The results speak for themselves’, continued Ray. ‘We now look forward to planning and delivering further CELTA courses in Iran in 2006.’
